Bible Journaling Guide

We get it. It can be scary to think about putting pen to paper in your Bible, especially if it is something you haven’t done before. That’s why we have jotted down a few tips to help you leap into Bible journaling with confidence.

Hopefully you find these helpful!

Step 1: Choose a Verse You Are Familiar With

You want to start with a verse you know inside and out – or something that truly means a lot to you personally. This can help inspire your creative juices and quell any worries you might have.

Step 2: Reflect on the Verse

Everyone has their own preferred way of doing this. Whether you like to pray first, do some background research about the meaning of the verse, or just dive straight in and let your creative brain take the lead – it is totally up to you!

Step 3: Select the Most Important Words

Identify the most important words or parts of the verse you want to journal. Once you have done this, you can design the style and layout of your work around these key words.

Step 4: Sketch It Out

Practice, practice, practice! Grab your pencil and create thumbnail sketches of possible design ideas. Choose the thumbnail you think has the most potential and begin to refine until you have a design you are happy with.

Step 5: Outline and Add Color

Once you’re happy with your design commit to it. Use a pen to outline your work and then add color with pencils, acrylics, crayons – whatever your tool of choice is.

Step 6: Add Those Final Touches

A little washi tape here, a stamp or two there – add all the lovely little extra bits and pieces to finish your creation.
